Vinny Alves is a Brazilian web programmer, technology writer, and Perl enthusiast with over 10 years of experience building websites, applications, and all sorts of creative solutions to complex problems.

Having been brought up in New York City, he adopted English as his primary language and worked teaching it in Brazil during 11 years. He then moved on to working with computers, building a Linux based web host provider by himself with only books and Google to guide him.

Since December 2005 he has been working for IBM, being recognized as SME in his account, and performing as Perl/Web Developer, Analyst, and Production Support team lead.

His technical solutions and ideas have been awarded on several occasions for having saved the client a massive amount of money. He uses Perl more often than not, and loves it.

He and his wife moved to Vancouver in October 2009.
